about

So, I'm a painter. I paint primarily landscapes, as I find it the most rewarding and the most conducive to my style of painting. I paint in oils, on wood panels and on canvas. I prefer the harder surface of wood most of the time. I love the way the paint glides over the surface of the wood. My journey into the life of an artist began just before we adopted our first child. It was 2007, and I was inspired to pick up some cheap brushes and small tubes of oils at the craft store. With a small stock of 8 x 10's and 5 x 7's I dove into the world of landscapes. I began with scenes of Holland, from the time I lived there are a missionary in my early twenties. My work has changed a lot since those early days. Now, living in Rhode Island I find inspiration all around me. My husband and I have two boys and one little girl. As a family we have many adventures and fill our days with the mundane and the spectacular. My landscapes come mainly from what I see here, what I remember of Holland, and what I long to see. Today I would describe my work as largely impressionistic, characterized by bold brush strokes, big skies, and moody weather.

Other than painting I spend most of my time being a mother, and all that implies. I tend the little things all around me. The garden. The sewing. The knitting. The woodworking. The schooling. The cooking. The doctoring. The hiking. The playing. The laughing. The talking. All part of a typical day around here. Please come share a piece of this with us. I hope to provide a place where inspiration abounds and where others who need a jump start can find one.
